positions open for Senior Data Scientist and Software Engineer, Hadoop/Data Team.
You should be respected by your peers as a leader, possess a burning intellectual curiosity, and desire to change the world in a big way. You should also be humble, funny, and passionate enough in your endeavors to not be afraid of failure. You should have a life outside of technology.
Experts in machine learning, spatiotemporal data, real-time systems, large scale and streaming data sets, data compression, artificial intelligence, and algorithms needed.
You'll work with an experienced management team in a great part of New York City, and have the benefit of interacting not only with top research scientists from around the globe, but some of the most successful business people and private investors around. Nobody here fits neatly into a box.

Current Positions:
Senior Data Scientist Position
Sense Networks is looking for data scientists with a thorough background in machine learning, applied statistics, and data exploration. Our data are typically marked with timestamps and locations, so experience with
spatio-temporal data is a plus. You would be joining a small team of PhD scientists with both Statistics and Computer Science backgrounds. We work on very interesting research-level statistical problems: some are well-defined,
while some are open-ended, but they are all motivated by actual business problems that require solutions. Just as often, we work on challenging (but standard-form) machine learning problems (e.g. classification, regression,
conditional density estimation, etc.).
Requirements:
- MS or PhD in statistics, computer science, or related fields, with 4+ years experience in industry or academia
- High level of comfort with the Linux environment and its various tools for data processing
- Ability to rapidly inspect data and build prototype models
- Ability and interest in collaborating with other scientists and engineers
Nice to have:
- R programming experience
- Java programming experience
- Familiarity with Hadoop and other approaches to distributed data storage and computation
- Experience with spatio-temporal data analysis and/or point process modeling
- Experience with data visualization

Think you've got what it takes to build large-scale, distributed systems that can analyze and crunch tons of mobile phone location data every day? Sense Networks is where you'll have a chance to
prove it!
Sense Networks is a fast growing startup at the exciting intersection of mobile, big data, and predictive analytics. Co-founded by world-renowned computer scientists from MIT and Columbia University,
we're pushing the boundaries of the mobile field. Our team of expert engineers and scientists have developed a unique approach to targeting and audience segmentation, based on years of research in
large-scale mobile data predictive analytics, which we're using to build innovative products that will transform the mobile advertising market space.
We're looking to hire a talented Engineer to add to our growing engineering team. You'll have the opportunity to work in an exciting, fast-paced, and growing startup environment, working with
cutting-edge "big data" and "NoSQL" technologies like Hadoop, HBase, Redis, and other "Internet scale" tools. You'll also learn about the processing, analyzing, and visualization of complex mobile
location data, as well as the latest trends in the hot, new mobile advertising market.
Our engineering team is small, smart, and fast, and you'll have an opportunity to work alongside expert and experienced scientists and software engineers from some of the world's top universities and
the industry's most successful startups.

- is excited by the challenges of working "at Internet scale"
- is always looking to learn new technologies
- has a strong interest in learning and working with mobile / location-based data
- learns fast
- thrives in a small, fast-paced environment where you "wear lots of hats"
Entry level candidates are OK, but must be able to demonstrate strong coding skills.

- Strong computer science knowledge/background
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing smart (but clean!) code - in the quickest way that gets the job done! (Java experience preferred)
- Proficiency working in a Unix/Linux environment
- B.S. degree in Computer Science (or related technical/engineering field)
Knowledge/experience with any of the following are a big plus:
- working in a virtual/cloud server environment (e.g., Amazon EC2, Rackspace, Slicehost, Linode, etc.)
- Hadoop
- other "big data" / "NoSQL" or large-scale / distributed systems
- some background in statistics and / or experience with machine learning techniques
- working on an agile team (e.g., Scrum)
